Profile

Teams rarely fail to test because they do not want to. They fail because the suite is slow, the environment is unreliable, or getting realistic data takes three days and a favour. Test infrastructure is the work of removing those reasons.

We build automation frameworks that fit the technology they are testing rather than the one the framework’s authors had in mind, across unit, integration, API and end-to-end. We work on the quality practice around them - what gets tested, at which level, and what a failure is supposed to tell you. And we spend a lot of time on test data, because it is the bottleneck almost nobody budgets for: generation, masking, and service virtualisation so a team can get a realistic environment without waiting on anyone.

This is an open application. You are not applying for a named position - you are telling us that this is the part of Volition you want to work in.

What you would work on

  • Designing test automation frameworks across unit, integration, API and end-to-end, fitted to the stack in front of you
  • Quality engineering practice: what to test at which level, and how to keep a suite trustworthy as it grows
  • Test data - generation, masking, and service virtualisation, so realistic environments stop being a scheduling problem
  • Making test suites fast and stable enough that people actually run them
  • Building the feedback into delivery pipelines rather than beside them
  • Working directly with client teams, and leaving them able to run it themselves

Who tends to fit

Experience that lands well

  • Fluent Swedish and English
  • Hands-on automation experience - Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, RestAssured, or their equivalents - and opinions about when each is wrong
  • A language you are comfortable solving problems in, since a test framework is software
  • CI/CD systems, and what it takes to make a suite reliable inside one
  • Some exposure to test data management or service virtualisation, or interest in it
  • Enough understanding of the systems under test to know what is worth asserting

We are not counting years. Someone who has made one flaky suite trustworthy has learned more than someone who has written a thousand passing tests.

Nice to have

  • Performance or load testing
  • Accessibility testing
  • Writing or speaking about this work in public

Personal qualities

  • Problem solver: you like diagnosing complex issues and building elegant solutions
  • Communicator: you can explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Teacher: you enjoy mentoring and helping others grow
  • Curious: you stay current with emerging technologies and practices
  • Collaborative: you thrive in team environments and value diverse perspectives

What we offer you

We offer you a dedicated management team, with a solid engineering and software development background. We are all part of the delivery and still active as consultants. This means that we have a better understanding of both our customer’s unique situation and your situation as an employed consultant. Basically, we are a company by knowledge workers for knowledge workers, built on a foundation of knowledge, empathy, sharing, and fun.

We expect all employees to be part of this culture.

  • Willing to always learn something new and set knowledge into practice
  • Participation in our competence jam sessions, conferences, and trips
  • Willing to share, and spread positive energy

How an open application works

We recruit by expertise rather than by vacancy. Open applications go to the people who lead this area, they are read properly, and we come back to you - whether or not there is something to talk about immediately.

Tell us what you have built, what you would want to build here, and anything that shows how you think. A CV helps, but what you write matters more.

Sounds like a good match?
